Dr Lekha Walallawita

Specialist Anaesthetist

Lekha joined GV Health in February 2022, as a staff specialist in anaesthetics. In her role, Lekha ensures patients are optimally fit for surgery and plans their overall care before, during and after their procedure.

The scope of practice for Lekha includes general anaesthesia, sedation, neuraxial and regional anaesthesia, airway management and resuscitation, and transport and life support for patients in emergency and trauma situations. Lekha also conducts pre anaestheic clinics and provides anaesthetic and analgesic care outside of theatres as in the Emergency Department, Radiology, Mental Health Unit and Birth Suite.

Lekha’s special interests include sustainability in anaesthetic practice, opioid free anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia and analgesia and improving the outcome of NOF patients.

Lekha graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in University of Colombo, SriLanka in 1993. She obtained her masters in anaesthesiology in 2002 and proceeded to the UK for further training in the Barts and the London rotation until 2005. Lekha served Sri Lanka for 7 years as a consultant anaesthetist and an intensivist before arriving in Australia in 2012 to enter the specialist training pathway to obtained the Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2016.
