Supporting our Future Workforce

Our health care teams are committed to the education of students on clinical placement and to new graduates looking for a well-rounded introduction to their chosen career path. We actively support student placement education programs as a key strategy in promoting rural workforce recruitment and retention. Students from a range of disciplines and academic institutions undertake placements at GV Health during the year. All placements accepted by GV Health are required to be requested via the Education Provider and Placeright.

Current Students - Prior to placement

The orientation package will take approximately 30 minutes to complete, so ensure you set aside enough time.

Current Students - During placement

  • Personal Belongings: It is recommended that you do not bring any items of value with you whilst on placement. You will be allocated a place to store your bag within current staff facilities.
  • Identification Badges and Security Access: Please wear your University/TAFE identification badge at chest height at all times while on clinical placement.
  • If you are issued a GV Health security swipe card please ensure the card is returned to the placement Coordinator located in the Elsie Jones Education Centre on completion of your placement. Failure to return the card will result in $20 replacement fee payable by the student.
  • Dress Code: University/TAFE uniform is to be worn during your placement at GV Health. Alternately if you do not have a university uniform, clean, neat and conservative hospital appropriate wear is acceptable (i.e. button-up-shirt and black or navy trousers). It is hospital policy that you wear covered closed-in shoes (leather, not runners or canvas), hair is to be tied back neatly. Please keep in mind that you are representing yourself, your education provider and GV Health during your placement. Arms must be bare below the elbows when in clinical areas.
  • Attendance: We believe our professionalism and personal commitment has a great impact on the quality of our care, as well as patient satisfaction. GV Health requires all Individuals to be punctual and attend work as required by their terms of engagement. If you are unable to attend a scheduled placement day it is your responsibility to advise the ward/department and Clinical Educator where you are undertaking the placement.
  • Accommodation: GV Health offers accommodation for visiting students at a nominal price. Please contact DL-Accommodation@gvhealth.org.au to receive further information or to start the booking process. Alternatively, there is a range of accommodation options available throughout the town ranging from caravan parks to motels and apartments.
