Dr Vicky Tan and Dr Darren Lee
Now working as Hospital Medical Officers, both say the supportive environment has been a highlight of their experience.
Vicky Tan and Darren Lee, Hospital Medical Officers at GV Health, have built their early medical careers in regional Victoria after moving from Malaysia.
After graduating from Monash University Malaysia in 2023, Vicky and Darren relocated to Shepparton to begin their internships at GV Health, their first experience of regional Australia.
“It’s a lot bigger and friendlier than we imagined,” Vicky said.
Now working as Hospital Medical Officers, both say the supportive environment has been a highlight of their experience.
“The medical workforce team is welcoming and flexible. People know you, listen to you, and genuinely want you to succeed,” Darren said.
Alongside their clinical work, Vicky and Darren are involved in the Pre-Vocational Education Committee, contributing to the development of training opportunities for junior doctors.
Their time at GV Health has provided broad clinical exposure and strong professional connections, which they hope to build on as they pursue GP training in Shepparton.
“Working here feels meaningful,” Darren said.
“You really see the difference you’re making, not just in the hospital, but in the community,” Vicky said.
