Planned Surgery and Pre-Admission

The Planned Surgery Access Unit (PSAU) & Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC) are located in The Hub Area, Graham Street Campus.

The PSAU manages patients on the planned surgery preparation list, preparing patients for their planned surgery admission and booking a date for admission.  The PSAU aims to ensure patients are admitted in the best possible state of health, with all tests completed prior to admission.

Once the decision has been made for surgery the patient will be placed onto the planned surgery preparation list. Patients will receive a letter confirming placement onto planned surgery preparation list, including urgency category and procedure.

It is important that patients are responsive when contacted by PSAU, failure to return telephone calls, reply to audit letter may result in patients being removed from planned surgery preparation list.

It is important patients contact the PSAU if they have had this surgery elsewhere or alternatively no longer want to this surgery. Patients should also contact the PSAU if they move address or change their contact details.

Planned surgery patients are required to complete a health questionnaire, it is vital that this is returned to the PSAU as soon as possible. The health questionnaire information allows the PSAU Nurses to determine whether the patient requires any appointments or tests prior to being admitted for surgery.

If required the PSAU Nurses will contact the patient to arrange a Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC) appointment to see an Anaesthetist. Further tests may be required to be completed before attending this appointment, PSAU Nurses will send information if this is required.

Please bring the following when attending PAC:

• Medicare card
• Health Care Card (if you have one)
• Concession Card (if you have one)
• Medications you are currently taking

PAC appointments can take to 2-4 hours, please ensure parking allows for this timeframe.
