Medical Education and Training

GV Health believes in investing in the growth and development of our junior medical staff. We are committed to helping them build the knowledge, capabilities, and competencies needed to lead in delivering high-quality healthcare.

The Medical Education and Training Unit (METU) at Goulburn Valley Health helps support its prevocational doctors with their educational and training requirements.

Education

Aligning with the National Framework for Pre-Vocational Medical Training, the METU provides a robust education program for both Intern (Postgraduate Year 1) and Hospital Medical Officers (Postgraduate Year 2) through weekly protected education sessions and opportunities to participate in practical skills sessions (simulations, procedures). These are available for PGY3+ HMOs to access as well.

Collaboration with Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub (GVRTH)

The METU also collaborates with GVRTH in facilitating local medical training opportunities with a focus on promoting careers in rural health. This is achieved through career training and development opportunities, as well as networking events that are available year-wide.

Leadership opportunities

Prevocational doctors are encouraged to participate actively in hospital governance through the Prevocational Education Committee, JMO society or being a Health Service Representative (PGY1 or 2) at JMO Victoria. These roles help ensure junior medical staff are well-represented to continue receiving quality support and education.
