Measles Resource Toolkit for GPs & Primary Care
Home | Public Health Unit | Measles Resource Toolkit for GPs & Primary Care
We’re pleased to share the Measles Awareness & Vaccination Toolkit, developed by the Goulburn Valley Public Health Unit, Loddon Mallee and Ovens Murray Public Health Units to support general practice and primary care providers.
Why This Matters Now
Measles activity is increasing globally and across Australia, alongside recent local transmission in Melbourne. Measles remains highly contagious and can pose serious risks, particularly for:
- Infants and young children
- Pregnant women
- Immunocompromised individuals
At the same time, some community members are:
- Under-immunised
- Unsure of their vaccination history
This makes opportunistic vaccination more important than ever in preventing further spread.
How Your Practice Can Help
General practice plays a critical role in protecting the community. Simple, proactive actions can make a significant difference:
- Checking vaccination status during routine visits
- Offering opportunistic measles vaccination
- Conducting patient recalls and reminders
- Sharing public health messages through your clinic’s communication channels
These small steps can improve vaccination coverage and community awareness.
