GV Health’s Day of Surgery Admissions (DOSA) unit admits all patients for theatre and provides pre-operative care for a range of surgical specialty patients and post-operative care for day patients.

DOSA is a visitor free ward. This allows us to provide privacy for all patients. If you have special needs that require your carer to attend the ward with you, please discuss this with elective admissions when they book your surgery date.

After any day surgery involving anaesthetic you are required to have a responsible adult to look after you for 24 hours. We ask that the person picking you up comes to the DOSA ward so that a nurse can provide a summary of the care provided.

How do I access GV Health’s DOSA unit?

Admission to the DOSA unit is via referral only. To arrange a referral, please speak to your treating team.

What to bring to hospital?

When you come in on your day for admission, please bring your Medicare card and your letter from patient services if you have one.

If you are staying overnight please bring:

  • Comfortable clothing
  • Underwear
  • Nightwear
  • Thongs or slippers
  • Personal toiletries (soap, moisturiser, shampoo, lip balm, deodorant, hairbrush, tooth brush, toothpaste etc)
  • Prescription and non-prescription medications, if needed (please let your care team know)
