The FoodREDi® 6-week program helps people aged 18+ years to:

  • Choose healthy foods and drinks
  • Plan to buy affordable food when shopping
  • Make healthy meals for one or more

What can I expect from the Food REDi program?

The Food REDi program runs twice per year for 6 weeks (2 hours per week) from 11am – 1pm in various local Community House venues.

Our groups are active, fun and informative. We blend nutritional information with teaching practical cooking skills.

Education Topics:

  • REDI and Safe – Food safety, storage, hand hygiene and general kitchen safety
  • REDI to Eat (1)– Plate portion size, handy serve sizes & Aust guide to healthy eating
  • REDI to Eat (2) – discretionary items (reducing salt/sugar/saturated fats) and the 5 food groups
  • REDI to Save – Unit Pricing, shopping lists, home-made vs takeaway and food wastage
  • REDI to Choose – Supermarket psychology, ingredient lists, nutrition panels and label reading
  • REDI to Cook – Ingredient swaps for healthier meals and sugary drinks vs water

Each week a recipe is selected to cook from scratch using a team approach.

For each recipe, a participant ‘Head Chef’ is selected to guide the other participants in the preparation, cooking and clean-up duties (with full assistance of GV Health staff) in a small group environment (limited to 6 participants).

All group participants sit down at a table to share the meal and review what worked or didn’t work (chew the fat so to speak).

What will this cost?

$42 per person (includes 6 sessions and 6 lunchtime meals)

Who is the Food REDi program available to?

GV Health’s Food REDi program is available to all people in the community aged over 18 years.
