Major Health-Worker Housing Boost at GV Health

An additional 15 self-contained apartments for doctors and other health staff will be built on site at GV Health’s Graham Street Shepparton campus, thanks to a grant from the Victorian Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

Premier Jacinta Allan announced the project at GV Health in Shepparton, joined by Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney, GV Health Deputy Board Chair, Nicole Inglis, and GV Health Chief Executive, Matt Sharp.

The complex of single- and multi-bedroom apartments will accommodate up to 18 people, offering modern, high-quality, safe and secure housing with direct access to the GV Health Shepparton campus for doctors, registrars and essential on-call medical staff.

The project is in addition to 18 new apartments announced in March 2024, supported by the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, bringing the total number of new dwellings on the Graham St Shepparton campus to 33, accommodating up to 39 people.

All 33 apartments will be delivered concurrently, with construction due to commence in January 2025 and completion targeted for June 2026.

GV Health Chief Executive Matt Sharp thanked the Victorian Government for the contribution.

“This funding is another game-changer for our region, and will enable us to deliver the biggest boost in on-site accommodation at GV Health in the past 50 years,” Mr Sharp said.

“When health professionals are considering a move to our region, access to housing is one of the biggest obstacles,” he said. “These new, modern apartments, right on site at GV Health, will make it easier to make the move to Shepparton, helping to attract more health professionals and grow our extraordinary workforce.”

“Today marks another significant step in GV Health’s strategy to establish sustainable housing solutions and a strong local health workforce for the long-term, supporting our ultimate goal of delivering the best possible care for our community.”
