GV Health’s Special Care Nursery has welcomed vital new life-saving equipment thanks to a generous $200,000 donation from Nathalia baker Ian Brereton, made through the GV Health Foundation.
The donation has funded a central monitoring system, a Giraffe incubator and two portable bedside monitors, enhancing the care provided to newborns experiencing challenges such as prematurity, infection, breathing difficulties and low blood sugar levels.
Each year, around 300 at-risk newborns receive care in GV Health’s Special Care Nursery. The new equipment will help our dedicated neonatal team closely monitor and respond to babies’ needs while supporting families to remain close to their newborns and reducing the need for transfers to metropolitan hospitals.
Ian had originally intended to leave a gift to the Special Care Nursery in his Will but chose to make the donation now, allowing the community to benefit immediately.
GV Health recently had the pleasure of thanking Ian alongside Special Care Nursery staff, GV Health executives and GV Health Foundation Board members.
We sincerely thank Ian for his extraordinary generosity and the GV Health Foundation for its ongoing support in helping bring this important project to life. Together, their commitment is making a lasting difference to local families and the future of neonatal care in our region.
