GV Health Chief Executive Matt Sharp will conclude his time in the role on 27 November 2026, after eight years leading the health service.

GV Health Board Chair Michael Delahunty said the Board had accepted Mr Sharp’s resignation and would soon commence recruitment for GV Health’s next Chief Executive.

“Matt has been an outstanding leader of GV Health, providing strong and steady leadership through a period of significant challenge, growth, transformation and increasing demand.

“Under Matt’s leadership, GV Health strengthened its governance, financial and operational foundations, delivered major improvements in infrastructure and regional health capability, and expanded its role as a major regional health service.

“He led the organisation through the unprecedented pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic, maintained a strong focus on the needs of the community and built important partnerships across the region and health sector.

“Matt’s contribution has positioned GV Health well for the future. While the Board’s preference would have been for Matt to continue as Chief Executive, we understand and respect his decision.

“On behalf of the Board, I sincerely thank Matt for his leadership, integrity, outstanding service and dedication to GV Health and the communities of the Goulburn Valley.”

Reflecting on his tenure, Mr Sharp noted the significant growth and change that had occurred in that time.

“GV Health has meant a great deal to me during my eight years as Chief Executive. I am proud of what we have achieved together through a period of significant growth, change and challenge, and grateful to the Board for its support throughout that time,” Mr Sharp said.

“While I understand this decision may come as a surprise to many, it is not the result of any single event, but the outcome of deep and careful personal reflection over recent months.

“For more than 20 years in executive health leadership roles, I have approached my work with a high level of intensity and commitment. This has been particularly true during my eight years at GV Health, including through the sustained pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic and the significant growth and change that followed. I also acknowledge the COVID-19 period and recent years has seen many of our staff work with a high degree of intensity as well, and most have ‘gone above and beyond’ what would reasonably be expected on many occasions for the people we provide services for and their colleagues.

“I have decided that the time is right to seek greater balance and take some time to recharge.

“I will remain Chief Executive until 27 November. There is still a great deal to achieve at GV Health. Over the coming months, my focus remains on delivering our priorities and supporting an orderly transition.

“GV Health has experienced leaders and capable, committed staff across the organisation. That collective strength will provide continuity and keep our important work moving forward.”

After finishing in late November, Mr Sharp intends to take a break before considering the next stage of his career.

“It has been a privilege to lead GV Health and serve our staff, patients and community. For now, there is important work ahead, and that is where my focus will remain,” Mr Sharp said.
