Special Care Nursery

GV Health’s Special Care Nursery (SCN) is located on the first floor of the Fairley Wing, located next to the Child and Adolescent Unit and the Maternity Unit.

Staffed by specially trained nurses and midwives, the SCN cares for all unwell babies from 32 weeks gestation, that require additional support. This includes babies who may require readmission up to 28 days post birth. The unit is also able to stabilise any babies that may require transfer to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The SCN’s paediatric medical staff are available 24 hours a day. They work closely with the nursing and midwifery staff, as well as the multidisciplinary team, to ensure you and your baby receive optimal and comprehensive care.

Access to the SCN is via the Maternity unit, as it is a locked a secure ward. Parents of babies in SCN have access 24 hours a day. We encourage parents to be involved in their babie’s care and welcome your involvement at any time.
