Our areas of Psychiatry and Medical practice
Consultant psychiatrists provide specialist clinical leadership in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of people experiencing mental health challenges. They work closely with multidisciplinary teams, consumers, families and carers, while also contributing to clinical governance, supervision, education and service development.
Psychiatry registrars develop specialist knowledge and clinical skills while working across a range of mental health settings including inpatient and community. Supervised by experienced psychiatrists and supported by multidisciplinary teams, registrars gain valuable experience in assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions and collaborative care. GV Health offers a comprehensive RANZCP Fellowship training program accredited for basic training as well as Advanced Certificate Training in Adult Psychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry.
Junior Medical Officers and Hospital Medical Officers can gain clinical and research experience in mental health as part of their broader medical training. These roles provide exposure to mental health assessment and treatment while developing skills in communication, teamwork, risk assessment and holistic care. Over the years number of junior medical officers have gone on to enter Psychiatric Fellowship training at GV Health as well as other services across Victoria.
International Medical Graduates bring valuable skills, experience and perspectives to our medical workforce. Opportunities within mental health can support doctors to build experience within the Australian healthcare system while working within collaborative and culturally responsive multidisciplinary teams.
Clinical placements provide medical students with an introduction to up-to-date evidence based mental health practice and the role of medicine within multidisciplinary care. Students can gain insight into assessment, treatment, recovery-oriented practice and working collaboratively with consumers, families and carers.
