Nurse and Midwifery Education

The Nursing Education team at GV Health plays a vital role in supporting a highly skilled, confident, and adaptable nursing workforce across our organisation.

Comprised of Clinical Support Nurses (CSNs) and Nurse Educators, the team delivers structured learning, professional development, and clinical capability building for nursing students, graduate nurses, and experienced clinicians alike. Through education, mentorship, and collaboration, the team helps ensure safe, evidence-based, and high-quality patient care across all clinical settings.

Clinical Support Nurses

Clinical Support Nurses provide frontline, practice-based education directly within clinical environments. Embedded within day-to-day ward operations, they offer real-time guidance, supervision, and feedback to nurses and students at the point of care.

CSNs play an important role in:

  • Supporting the consolidation of clinical skills
  • Reinforcing evidence-based practice
  • Bridging the gap between theory and practice
  • Enhancing confidence in clinical decision-making
  • Promoting safe and high-quality patient care

Their immediate accessibility within clinical areas creates valuable learning opportunities in real-world healthcare settings and supports continuous professional growth.

Nurse Educators

Nurse Educators lead the design, coordination, and evaluation of structured education initiatives across the organisation.

Their work includes:

  • Orientation and onboarding programs
  • Transition-to-practice programs
  • Competency-based education and assessment
  • Continuing professional development
  • Specialty and advanced practice education
  • Leadership and career development initiatives

These programs are aligned with organisational priorities, accreditation standards, and emerging healthcare needs to ensure staff maintain contemporary clinical knowledge and skills.

Supporting Nurses at Every Career Stage

The Nursing Education team supports learners and clinicians throughout all stages of their professional journey.

Students

Undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students are supported through clinical placements, supervision, assessment, and collaborative partnerships with universities and education providers.

Graduate Nurses

Structured transition programs assist newly graduated nurses to build confidence, strengthen clinical competence, and develop their professional identity within a supportive environment.

Experienced Clinicians

Experienced nurses are provided with opportunities for advanced skill development, specialty education, leadership preparation, and ongoing professional growth.

A Collaborative and Contemporary Approach

A key strength of the Nursing Education team is its collaborative and evidence-based approach to learning.

Educators work closely with:

  • Clinical leaders
  • Research and quality teams
  • Multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
  • Universities and higher education providers

This collaboration ensures education remains contemporary, responsive, and aligned with workforce and community healthcare needs.

Building a Culture of Lifelong Learning

The Nursing Education team plays an important role in fostering:

  • Lifelong learning
  • Reflective practice
  • Clinical excellence
  • Workforce capability
  • Continuous improvement

Through the combined efforts of Clinical Support Nurses and Nurse Educators, GV Health continues to strengthen individual capability, improve patient outcomes, support workforce retention, and invest in the future of nursing across the Goulburn Valley.
