Advance your career as an Enrolled Nurse and be recognised for your expertise.

At GV Health, Enrolled Nurse Level 3 (EN3) is a formal classification that acknowledges advanced clinical skill, critical thinking, and meaningful contribution to high-quality, evidence-based care.

The Enrolled Nurse Level 3 role is designed for experienced enrolled nurses who have developed advanced clinical capability within a specialty area. EN3s contribute significantly to safe, person-centred care through enhanced technical skills, sound clinical judgement and a commitment to continuous learning.

This classification formally recognises enrolled nurses who have completed additional education or have a minimum of four years post-registration experience, enabling them to take on expanded responsibilities and provide leadership at the point of care.

Specialty Areas for EN3 Recognition

Enrolled Nurse Level 3 classifications at GV Health can be recognised in a wide range of specialty practice areas, including:

EN3s in wound care demonstrate advanced skills in complex wound assessment, dressing selection, pressure injury prevention, and supporting best-practice wound management across clinical units. They act as a resource for staff and contribute to education and quality initiatives.

EN3s working in perioperative settings provide high-level support in the operating theatre, including patient preparation, equipment setup, sterile technique, and safe procedural assistance. They support smooth theatre workflows and mentor junior staff.

In acute care areas, EN3s provide enhanced assessment, monitoring and technical skills. They help guide colleagues in postoperative recovery, pain management, escalation processes, and safe patient handling, contributing to team capability during busy periods.

EN3s in rehab settings support patients with long-term recovery needs, assist with mobility and therapy programs, and promote independence. They work closely with allied health to reinforce therapy goals and provide continuity across the care journey.

EN3s in aged care settings provide person-centred support for residents and home-based clients, using advanced skills in chronic care management, medication support, cognitive and dementia care, and family communication.

EN3s specialising in chronic illness play a key role in monitoring symptoms, supporting treatment plans, educating patients, and liaising with multidisciplinary teams. In renal care, this includes dialysis support under RN direction and assisting with fluid balance and access monitoring.

Mental health EN3s provide advanced skills in therapeutic communication, observation, de-escalation, and crisis support. They reinforce safety, promote recovery-oriented care, and offer guidance to junior staff working with mental health consumers.

EN3s in oncology contribute to cancer care by supporting chemotherapy preparation workflows, symptom management, patient education, emotional support and safe handling practices. They work alongside RNs and oncologists to ensure high-quality, compassionate care.

In ED, EN3s assist with triage support, patient preparation, wound management, point-of-care tasks, splinting, dressing care and ongoing monitoring. They respond quickly and effectively in a dynamic environment and offer guidance to new staff in urgent care processes.

EN3s in paediatric settings help deliver developmentally appropriate care for infants, children and young people. They support assessments, comfort measures, parental engagement, and the coordination of child-safe, family-centred care.
