Grutzner House is an accredited psychogeriatric nursing home, providing care for residents with specialised mental health issues or complex challenging behaviour.

The facility is equipped to provide care for up to 20 residents and is staffed around the clock by a dedicated team of nurses. An Associate Nurse Unit Manager on duty at all times. The service is overseen by a consultant psychiatrist as well as a team of psychiatric doctors and a dedicated team of General Practitioners (GPs) who provide in home visits with our residents. Allied health staff are available upon referral and also visit regularly.

The model of care at Grutzner House focuses on providing individualised, person-centered care in a home-like atmosphere. We seek to accommodate and optimise the independence of individuals while also enabling the freedom for residents to enjoy community activities.

Our award-winning lifestyle program includes activities, attendance of events in the local region and participation in residents’ family celebrations. We also offer the opportunity for residents and families to participate in courtyard barbecues and tend to our vegetable gardens. We have found our garden area provides everyone with an escape and peaceful serenity, sense of pride and the joy of knowing they are growing good, healthy, organic food for everyone to enjoy.

Grutzner House comprises of three living areas; two communal and dining areas plus a residents’ family room and activity area. All residents also have unrestricted access to the courtyards during daylight hours.

All bedrooms are private rooms, and some of these which have ensuites. Bedrooms without ensuites have access to shared bathrooms. The ensuited bedrooms are dependent upon availability.

Visiting hours at Grutzner House are flexible to suit individual resident and family’s needs (COVID restrictions may apply).

The home is located at the GV Health campus in Shepparton, on Monash Street.

How do I apply to become a resident?

Suitability for a place at Grutzner House is determined by the Aged Psychiatric Assessment & Treatment Team (APATT). Eligibility for a place at Grutzner House is determined by the Aged Care Assessment Service. Clients can refer themselves to the Aged Psychiatric Assessment Team or be referred by a family member, carer, General Practitioner (GP) or health professional, by contacting My Aged Care.
