Infant Child and Youth MH&W Service Stream

The Infant, Child & Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing Service (ICYMHWS) at GV Health supports infants (babies), children, young people and their families who may be experiencing emotional, behavioural or mental health challenges.

We work with young people aged 0-25 years and their families to understand what is happening and help find the right support. Our goal is to provide care that is respectful, family-inclusive and tailored to the age and needs of each young person.

We work closely with families, schools, GPs and community services to ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time.

This service supports:

  • Infants (babies) and young children
  • School-aged children
  • Teenagers and young adults
  • Parents, carers and families supporting a young person

We support people living in:

  • Greater Shepparton
  • Mitchell
  • Murrindindi
  • Strathbogie

Children and young people experience many different challenges while growing up. Our team can help with concerns such as:

  • Anxiety or excessive worry

  • Emotional distress

It can sometimes be hard to know when a child or young person may need extra support. You may want to seek help if you notice changes that are worrying, persistent, or affecting daily life.

Some signs that extra support may be helpful include:

• Your child seems very anxious, worried or fearful most of the time
• Ongoing sadness, withdrawal or loss of interest in things they used to enjoy
• Big changes in behaviour, mood or sleep
• Difficulty attending or coping at school
• Frequent anger, distress or emotional outbursts
• Your child is struggling to cope after a stressful or traumatic event
• Concerns about safety or wellbeing
• You feel overwhelmed and unsure how to support your child

Every child and family is different. If you are concerned about a young person’s wellbeing, it is always okay to reach out and ask for advice.

You can contact Mental Health Triage on 1300 369 005 to discuss your concerns and explore the best options for support.

Every young person’s journey is different, but care usually involves:

Listening to young people and families
We take time to understand the experiences, strengths and goals of the young person and their family.

Working together on decisions
Young people and families are involved in decisions about their care and support.

Family-inclusive care
Parents, carers and family members are recognised as an important part of a young person’s wellbeing and recovery.

Age-appropriate care
Support is tailored to the developmental stage of the child or young person, from infancy through to young adulthood.

Collaboration with other supports
We may work with schools, GPs, paediatricians and community services to ensure support is coordinated.

Focus on wellbeing and recovery
Our aim is to help young people build skills, resilience and confidence so they can move forward in their lives.

If you or a young person is in immediate danger or needs urgent help, please seek support straight away.
