An Exercise Physiologist is a university-trained Allied Health Professional who specialises in using exercise to help people manage or improve their health.

Our Exercise Physiologists are trained to design and deliver safe, effective exercise programs tailored to individuals with a wide range of conditions including injuries, chronic disease or illness, disability, or those recovering from surgery.

Exercise Physiologists focus on improving your physical function and symptom management through movement and exercise to support your overall well-being and quality of life.

Exercise Physiologists can help you with a variety of health conditions at any time during your journey at GV Health and offer a large range of services and programs that are free to access. These specialised services include, but are not limited to:

Outpatient Exercise Physiology

  • Osteoarthritis Management Program (Hip/Knee)
  • Prehabilitation program
  • Musculoskeletal and Surgical Rehabilitation
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Aquatic Therapy

Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC)

  • Cardiac Rehabilitation (Heart Conditions)
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation (Lung Conditions)
  • Oncology program (Pre, during, post treatment)
  • General strength and conditioning

Chronic Pain Clinic (CPC)

  • Chronic Pain Program

Hospital Admissions Risk Program (HARP) Disease Management Team (DMT)

  • Management of Heart Failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)/ Chronic Lung Disease following hospital presentation

Who is GV Health’s Exercise Physiologist service available to?

GV Health’s Exercise Physiology service is available to patients who have been referred from a clinical service externally (General Practitioner Clinics or other Hospitals) or within GV Health.

How do I access GV Health’s Exercise Physiology service?

Access to GV Health’s Exercise Physiology services is achieved via internal referral or referral from other hospitals.

The following services also accept referrals directly from GP’s:

  • Osteoarthritis Management Program
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation
  • Oncology Program
  • Chronic Pain Program

These Referrals are accepted via the Service Access Unit central intake. For general appointment or other relevant queries please contact the SAU on 1800 222 582 and select option 4.
