To improve access and appropriateness of referrals to specialist clinics in public hospitals, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has developed Statewide Referral Criteria for certain medical and surgical conditions. Referring clinicians must comply with Statewide Referral Criteria.

Mandatory information is required for a referral request to be accepted, directed to the most appropriate service and clinically prioritised. See the minimum information required for referrals to be accepted. 

Allied Health, Ambulatory Care and Primary Care Services

GV Health’s Service Access Unit (SAU) provides an access and referral management service for allied health, ambulatory care and primary care services.

To ensure timely receipt and triage of referrals from GPs, please refer via electronic referral using SeNT (BPAC), available to practices using Medical Director or Best Practice software. For practices unable to use e-referral please refer via SAUintake@gvhealth.org.au

Cardiac, Neurological and Respiratory Diagnostic Testing Services

The Clinical Diagnostic Unit provides a range of specialist diagnostic testing services. Cardiac testing include Echocardiogram, Holter and Blood Pressure Monitors, ECG, Stress ECG and Stress Echocardiogram tests and PPM / AICD checks. Neurological testing include EEG and Sleep Deprived EEG.  Respiratory will include Spirometry, DLCO, Lung Volumes.

Paediatric diagnostic testing is available for neurological and some cardiac services.

Aged Care Services

The Aged Care Assessment service assesses for eligibility for entry to:

  • Community service options such as personal care and general home care
  • Home Care Packages
  • Residential care in an aged care home
  • Residential respite care
  • Transition Care Program
  • Short term restorative care

Clients can refer themselves or be referred by a family member, carer, GP or health professional.
