Sarah Carroll’s career at GV Health began in 2003 as a graduate nurse in the medical ward.

Sarah Carroll (1)

Sarah spent 10 years caring for patients in medical and rehabilitation before following her long-held dream of becoming a midwife.

“I always wanted to do midwifery, but I had to pick the right time,” she said.

When her children were all at school, Sarah completed her postgraduate training and began work in midwifery in 2017.

Today, Sarah is a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife who works across every part of maternity care, from antenatal clinics to the birth suite, and even in women’s homes through domiciliary care.

Every day is different, but her purpose remains the same: supporting women, advocating for their choices, and making sure they feel safe and respected.

“Women will always remember how they felt during that vulnerable time,” Sarah said.

“It’s not just about the outcome of the birth, it’s about whether they felt heard, supported and proud of what they achieved.”

For Sarah, being a midwife is about being part of those first moments of life while staying calm and steady when things don’t go to plan.

She describes her role as being part cheer squad, part advocate, and part protector, holding space for women and their families during some of their most vulnerable experiences.

“I’m proud to say I’m a midwife,” she said.

“At GV Health I’ve grown in intuition, leadership and teamwork.

“We share a vision of family-centred care, building trust, communicating openly and giving women dignity.

“It’s a privilege to sit with them in the quiet moments, to celebrate their strength, and to never take for granted the chance to be there at the beginning of life.”
