“I love caring for patients when they’re at their lowest,” she said. “Being able to support them emotionally and help them feel valued is so important.

Safalata Adhikari (8)

When Safalata Adhikari moved to Australia from Nepal, she arrived with years of nursing experience but knew she needed local training before she could practise. After completing her required studies, she began searching for a supportive place to start her career as a Graduate Registered Nurse. Friends recommended GV Health, describing it as a welcoming workplace in a strong, connected community.

Safalata joined GV Health in January 2024. She admits she was nervous at first.

“Australian rules and policies are very different, and I was a bit frightened about the working environment and whether the culture would be very different,” she said.

“But everyone supported me, the nurses, the senior staff, even the patients.

“When people realised I was a new nurse, they explained things, encouraged me and helped me grow both clinically and emotionally.”

Safalata relocated from Sydney and quickly found Shepparton to be warm and inviting.

“It was quiet, welcoming, and people opened their arms to me.

“Now it feels like home, hopefully permanent.

“It’s amazing to think how far I’ve come in such a short amount of time.”

For Safalata, nursing is a lifelong dream.

“I love caring for patients when they’re at their lowest,” she said.

“Being able to support them emotionally and help them feel valued is so important.

“GV Health has become my community, and it encourages me every day.

“I love my work, it doesn’t even feel like work.”
