For Pablo, volunteering at GV Health is not just an act of service, it is a promise he made to himself more than a decade ago.

Pablo (2)

After facing deep personal challenges, including serious illness and the loss of a family member, Pablo chose a new path. “

In 2013 I promised the universe, no more chasing money, only service,” he said.

From that moment, his life has been about helping others, wherever and however he can.

Pablo first began volunteering in Melbourne before moving to Shepparton more than ten years ago.

Since 2023, he has given his time to GV Health, primarily at Grutzner House, where he visits residents, listens to their stories, and offers companionship.

For him, the role is not only about physical help, but about healing.

“I can read people’s stories in their eyes,” Pablo explained.

“Even when they can’t speak, you can feel their suffering and connect with the little boy or girl inside.

“That connection is powerful.”

Volunteering has also allowed Pablo to draw on years of personal study and meditation practice.

He believes that true service comes from compassion, presence, and recognising the shared humanity in every person.

“Humanity is my family,” he said.

“Every man is my brother, every woman my sister.

“We are all connected.”

For Pablo, being ‘proud to serve’ means living in the moment and giving thanks for every instant.

“Life is here, now,” he said.

“Nothing is promised.

“That is why I volunteer, because it is the best thing you can do with the time you have.”
