When Speech Pathologist Mel Jurd first joined GV Health in 2013, she was looking for more variety in her work.

She had been in a limited role elsewhere and saw an opportunity here to broaden her scope of practice.

More than ten years later, she has stayed not only for the career growth, but also for the community she has found.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work across different programs, build my skills and take up professional development that’s been really well supported here,” Mel said.

“On a personal note, I met my husband here ten years ago, that’s another reason I stayed.”

Meg Graham joined GV Health after returning from overseas.

Originally from the city, she was drawn to the diversity of regional practice and the balance of lifestyle.

“I’ve been able to work across programs supporting people from when they arrive in ED through to settling back at home, which is really rewarding,” Meg said.

“And outside of work, there’s no traffic, quick commutes and plenty to enjoy with family and friends.”

Both agree that the scope of practice and team culture make GV Health stand out.

“In regional practice you need to be a generalist,” Mel said. “You never quite know who’s going to walk through the door, and I enjoy that variety.”

“Our team is welcoming, open and supportive of learning,” Meg said.

“Staff wellbeing is a real priority here, and that makes a difference.”
