Anusha Soman – Registered Nurse
When Anusha Soman joined GV Health’s Surgical Unit in 2024, it marked the fulfilment of a journey that began years earlier.
Originally from India, Anusha has worked across India, Dubai and Northern Ireland since qualifying as a nurse in 2008.
She first planned to move to Australia in 2020, but pandemic border closures delayed her plans.
Determined to continue her career progression, she completed her registration overseas before applying directly to GV Health.
“I applied myself without any agency,” Anusha said.
“The whole process was very transparent.
“GV Health guided me through every step, from nomination to visa, and once I arrived, the support was incredible.”
Anusha relocated to Shepparton with her husband and two children.
GV Health provided initial accommodation and practical support, helping the family secure housing, enrol their children in school and settle into the community.
Starting in general surgery was a new challenge.
Previously working in vascular surgery, Anusha admits she was nervous about the transition.
“But the educators and clinical support nurses were always there,” she said.
“I learned so much in a short time.
“Now I feel very confident.”
On the busy surgical ward, Anusha cares for patients recovering from complex procedures, managing medications, wound care and unexpected emergencies.
For her, the most rewarding moments come at discharge.
“When patients or families thank you from their heart, that means everything,” she said.
“Sometimes a smile, a few kind words, or simply being there makes a big difference.”
Anusha says she feels proud to work at GV Health and describes the Shepparton community as welcoming and supportive.
“I didn’t feel alone,” she said.
“From day one, someone was always there to help.”
To other nurses considering a move, her message is simple:
“If you’re thinking about it, come,” she said.
“It’s a good place to work and build a life.”
