About the team

Dietitians at GV Health work across a variety of programs. This includes Acute and Subacute care at the main campus, as well as community programs such as the Rural Allied Health Team, Community Health, Diabetes Centre, Hospital Admission Risk Program (HARP), Pain Clinic, and Ambulatory Aged Care. GV Health is committed to supporting individual and team progression through professional development opportunities, clinical supervision, and a robust student program. 

Our areas of dietitians' practice

At GV Health, our acute and subacute hospital-based teams include Dietitians from Grades 1 to 3, working with patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions at the Graham Street campus.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, our dietitians undertake:

  • Nutrition screening and assessment
  • Consultation on the dietary management of various conditions
  • Ensuring nutritional adequacy of diets and fluids
  • Monitoring progress and adjusting plans as needed
  • Provision of alternative nutrition, including enteral and parenteral nutrition, for patients unable to manage oral intake
  • Management of the GV Health Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Program
  • Education for patients, families, and carers to support discharge
  • Education of nursing, medical, and postgraduate dietetic students

Dietitians in the acute and subacute inpatient care setting may work across the following streams:

  • General Medicine
  • Critical Care
  • Oncology
  • Paediatrics
  • General Surgery
  • Renal (including dialysis services)
  • Mental Health Services

This diverse scope of practice highlights the integral role of dietitians in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across GV Health.

GV Health dietitians working in subacute bed-based care support adult inpatients across a variety of needs. Their work includes but is not limited to:

  • Rehabilitation
  • Aged Care
  • Transition to Home-Based Care

These dietitians play a vital role in helping patients regain independence and improve their quality of life as they transition through different stages of care.
