35 years might seem like a long time working for one employer, but for one staff member at Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton, 35 years is not long enough.
Laundry coordinator Elaine Danda retired last Friday (29 June 2018), but her days at the health service are far from over.
“I plan to return to GV Health as a volunteer,” Elaine said. “You get used to the people you work with, it’s like a big family.”
Elaine began working at the original Mooroopna & Base District Hospital in 1971, before leaving six years later to raise her family.
Then on May 7 this year, Elaine clocked up 35 years of continuous service at GV Health, having joined the Environmental Services team in 1983.
Elaine says she has experienced enormous change over the last 35 years.
“Everything has just expanded and changed so much,” Elaine said. The hospital is a lot bigger now, and is going to grow even more.”
Although Elaine’s last official day as an employee at GV Health was June 29th, she will only be taking a short break before coming back on board as a volunteer.
Elaine is keen to continue being a part of GV Health due to her strong connection with the health service and the community.
GV Health Board Chair, Ms Rebecca Woolstencroft, expressed her thanks to Elaine for her hard work and commitment over the past 35 years and congratulated her on her decision to return to GV Health in a voluntary capacity.
