Child and Adolescent Services

The Child and Adolescent Unit at Goulburn Valley Health cares for approximately 1,500 patients from the region per year.  The unit has 20 bed spaces and four isolation rooms. Staff are committed to family centred, individualised care which empowers and encourages the involvement of family members in their child’s treatment and care.

Child and Adolescent services at Goulburn Valley are extensive with most medical and many surgical conditions expertly managed locally.  A range of community care services compliment their inpatient care on discharge.

The unit is staffed 24 hours a day by a highly dedicated team of paediatric nurses, consultant paediatricians and hospital medical officers. Paediatric allied health staff including a social worker, dietician, speech pathologist, physiotherapist, play therapist and members of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health services compliment the dedicated team.

We have the facilities to accommodate one parent/carer overnight. Within the unit, we have a small parents’ retreat, which has beds, a sitting area, tea and coffee-making facilities, a fridge, toaster and microwave.  The unit also has a multi-purpose room where children can play on Wii entertainment or watch movies on the large LCD television. The comfortable couches lend themselves to a relaxing area for patients, family and friends for some time out.

Service Access

Admission to the Child and Adolescent Unit is obtained by a Paediatrician referral, and/ or following an emergency admission.
