Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS)

GV Health is committed to providing high quality mental health services to local children, youth and their families.

The Victorian Chief Psychiatrist, Dr Neil Coventry, has undertaken an external review of Goulburn Valley Health’s Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS). We welcome the Chief Psychiatrist’s Report and fully support the recommendations. Many of the recommendations have already been delivered.  We expect to have completed implementation of the recommendations by end December 2016.

GV Health has been undertaking an internal review of the area mental health service for the last 18 months and has today released the recently completed Child and Youth Mental Health Service Report executive summary. This coincides with the release of the Chief Psychiatrist report.

We anticipate that a new model of care will commence in January 2017 and it will be reviewed regularly, both internally and externally.

GV Health recently facilitated two successful community co-design consultation sessions, which actively engaged more than 45 key stakeholders to inform the development of the new model of care. Participants included consumers, carers, staff and other stakeholders, who contributed ideas, feedback and suggestions for how they want the new service to operate.

CYMHS services are continuing and every client will be triaged and prioritised according to level of need, with a particular focus on those at highest risk.
