The Mary Coram Unit is a 48 bed combined inpatient Rehabilitation and Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) and Inpatient Palliative Care Unit at GV Health Shepparton Campus.
The Unit is staffed by full-time Geriatricians and Rehabilitation Consultants.

The multidisciplinary team consists of Consultants, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech pathologists, Dietitians and Social Workers, Diversional Therapy and Discharge Planning.
The Unit is recognised as the preferred specialist provider for the following conditions for patients in the Goulburn Valley and Hume Regions
- Stroke / Neuro Rehabilitation
- Parkinson’s Disease – GV Health has a dedicated Movement Disorder Nurse who works closely with the Unit
- Orthopaedic Rehabilitation –
- Delirium and Dementia Care
- Falls (particularly falls of the elderly)
- Chronic Pain Management
- Inpatient Palliative Care
The Unit has close links with many community programs including the GV Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC), Transition Care Program (TCP), Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS), District Nursing and Hospital In the Home (HITH), Restorative Care Program, GEM in the Home
In conjunction with your treating specialist you will be encouraged to actively participate in your health care planning and early supported discharge planning will commence from admission
Links with universities allows medical, nursing and allied health students the opportunity to undertake a supported placement in the area of Rehabilitation and Geriatric Evaluation and Management and Inpatient Palliative Care
Access to this service is by referral only. Please discuss this with your GP, specialist or other health professional.
The Mary Coram Unit accepts referrals from within GV Health and external referral sources including interstate and Metropolitan Victorian hospitals.
Referrals to the Unit are accepted from Health Professionals only. These include but are not limited to General Practitioners (GPs), Community Health Service providers such as the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS), The Movement Disorder Nurse, and the GV Health Community Rehabilitation Centre amongst others.
Our preferred referral method is via fax using the Mary Coram Unit Referral Form MCU Referral Form
Referrals are faxed on (03) 5832 2572.
Note that all fax referrals require you to phone (03) 5832 3670 to confirm that your referral has been received.
Referrals are triaged and then placed on the waiting list for admission. The admission of external referrals is co –ordinated by the Nurse Unit Manager : Patricia Collier who can be contacted on 58 323 676 or 58 323 464.
