Goulburn Valley Health’s lactation clinic is raising awareness of its services for women across the region, as part of World Breastfeeding Week this week.
The clinic at GV Health’s Graham Street site plays a vital role in educating local women on breastfeeding and caring for their new-born, but some new mothers may not be aware the service is available.
“The Lactation Day Stay service provides support to help women start to breastfeed or continue to breastfeed,” GV Health’s lactation consultant, Jann Bromley, said. “On average, more than 500 women use the service each year.”
“Women often come to the day stay service for at least one or two breastfeeds,” she said. “Having access to a more comfortable environment is settling for mums and babies and more conducive to spending long periods of time.”
The clinic is in a comfortable, home-like environment with couches and recliner chairs in the lounge room, a kitchen to heat up meals and a room for private consultation with lactation consultants.
“World Breastfeeding Week provides an important opportunity for GV Health to showcase the clinic and promote its services to new mothers who may need extra support,” Ms Bromley concluded.
The Lactation Day Stay is a free service which is currently available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. No referral is necessary.
New mothers can call (03) 5831 1370 to make an appointment.
