Goulburn Valley Health (GV Health) welcomes the funding announcement by the Premier of Victoria, The Honourable Daniel Andrews MP and the Victorian Minister for Health, Jenny Mikakos MP to invest in upgrading current infrastructure at its Graham Street site in Shepparton.
The $58 million funding boost will be used to expand medical imaging services within the new Emergency Department, compliance works to ensure the entire Graham Street Shepparton site meets all statutory building codes, with some of the funds also being used to install an additional electrical supply feed into the site.
GV Health’s Board Chair, Rebecca Woolstencroft said the extra funding supports the investment that has already been made by the State Government.
“The injection of these funds helps us progress with GV Health’s exciting capital development program to ensure we are able to provide facilities that are modern and of a great standard for people we provide care for across the Goulburn Valley,” Ms Woolstencroft said.
“It is very important that when people in our community are unwell that they receive the necessary care close to home. More funding ensures we can provide the services required to keep people in the region so they don’t have to travel to receive treatment.” Ms Woolstencroft said.
Ms Woolstencroft also welcomed the ongoing support of GV Health by the State Government and Suzanna Sheed Member for Shepparton District.
Matt Sharp, GV Health’s Chief Executive said the current construction program was progressing.
“We currently have three sites under construction, with our dialysis unit due to be completed by the end of October 2019. We expect to commence services in the new dialysis building from early November and will be increasing the number of chairs to 15 from seven,” Mr Sharp said.
Mr Sharp said the timing of the $58 million funding announcement was ideal as the new works can be incorporated into the current Stage 1 redevelopment.
“To be able to address some key site infrastructure and compliance issues, including the addition of a second high voltage electrical supply is another step forward toward building for our future.”
Mr Sharp also said the announcement was an important step in GV Health’s growth as a regional health service.
“This is an exciting milestone for GV Health and will allow us to further increase the range of health and hospital services we provide for people from the Shepparton region and beyond. It will also allow us to provide improved environments and new equipment for our staff to work with.”
“This announcement also fits very nicely with the current planning work being undertaken following a funding commitment from the State Government earlier in 2019. The purpose of this planning work is to inform the next stage of development at our Graham Street Shepparton site.”
Mr Sharp said the opportunities to further expand GV Health’s services provide a positive outlook for the future.
Stage 1of the redevelopment is due for completion in late 2021.
