Goulburn Valley Health Dental Clinic has been a leader in public dentistry for many years.
As a service provider and centre of excellence GV Health has shown superior merit in the range of services offered.
For new graduates, GV Health has a New Graduate Program for first year Dentists, which has been going continuously for 25 years, giving new graduates the opportunity to consolidate and expand their knowledge and build confidence to be outstanding clinicians.
The graduates are fully supported, receiving mentoring from the Clinical Director and second and third year graduates.
The program has proved very popular for prospective employment. In 2014, 80 applications were received for three positions.
The BOH (Bachelor of Oral Health) first year Graduate Program has been going since 2012 and follows along the same lines as the first year Dentist graduate program.
The new graduates have the opportunity to learn by experiencing (within their prescribed scope of practice):
- Third molar surgery
- Minor oral surgery including biopsies
- Basic fixed appliance & removable appliance therapy
- Molar endodontics
- Removable prosthetics
- Paedodontics advanced periodontal therapy
- Management of the medically compromised patient
- General anaesthetics
- Excellent mentor support
The graduate programs provide the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary dental team including Dental and Oral Health Therapists, Dental Technicians, Prosthetists and Students.
Melbourne University Dental and BOH final year students visit the clinic throughout each year on their six-week rotation and are also exposed to a wide range of clinical experiences in a supportive environment.
