Mr. Bill Brown

Executive Director, Mental Health Services

Bill Brown is the Executive Director, Mental Health for GV Health.

Born in Ballarat, he worked in Psychiatric Nursing at Lakeside Hospital from 1973 to 1976 and engaged in further studies in General Nursing at Mildura Base Hospital from 1976 to 1979.

He returned to Psychiatric Nursing as Charge Nurse Inpatient Unit and Community Mental Health for North West Victoria for two years before taking up the position of Deputy Director Northern Mallee Psychiatric Services.

Bill served as Director of Nursing, Northern Mallee Psychiatric Services from 1987 to 1991.

In 1991, Bill established a team at Lakeside Hospital, Ballarat, to address serious clinical and administrative issues and to help develop the blueprint for the closure of Lakeside Hospital and Aradale Mental Hospital, Ararat, as part of the mainstreaming of Mental Health Services into General and Aged Care Services.

In late 1991, Bill returned to Mildura as Deputy Director of Nursing at Mildura Base Hospital.

He earned a Graduate Diploma in Health Administration, followed by a Masters in Management through the Australian Catholic University - Ballarat.

Bill then served as Director of Nursing at Mildura Base Hospital from 1996 to 2000. He established his own consulting business in 2000 before taking his position with GV Health Mental Health Services in 2004.

In partnership with the Clinical Director of Psychiatry, Bill Brown is responsible for providing leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality public mental health services to the West Hume Region catchment area and private mental health services to Cobram.

The programs provided by this service are Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Adult Community Mental Health, Acute In-patients services, Aged Mental Health Residential Services, Aged Acute In-patient and the Aged Psychiatry Assessment and Treatment Services, Primary Mental Health and Early Intervention and the Hume Region Early Psychosis Service.
