Mr. Ian McKinnon

Ian McKinnon was appointed to the GV Health Board on 1 July 2009 and his current appointment expires on 30 June 2012.

He grew up in Beulah (in the Mallee) and attended secondary school in Melbourne.

After attending Toorak Teachers College, Ian taught in many rural schools in South Gippsland.

He completed a Graduate Diploma in Hearing Impairment and moved to Shepparton in 1977 as a visiting teacher for the Hearing Impaired.

Ian became ‘teacher in charge’ of the visiting teachers service for Goulburn North East Region, providing teachers to assist the integration of children who are hearing impaired, visually impaired, health impaired and physically disabled.

After undertaking postgraduate studies at Melbourne University, Ian was appointed Principal of Goulburn Special Developmental School, which catered for children with severe intellectual disabilities.

Later, he served as Principal of both the Graham St Special School and Goulburn Special Development School. He was instrumental in merging the two schools and then helped establish a purpose-built school in Verney Rd.

He is a qualified professional tennis coach in Shepparton.

Ian has been a member of GV Health Ethics and Research Committee for more than 10 years, and currently participates in the following GV Health committees:
